Fashion Show At PSFU Women’s Day Katale Excites residents

Residents in Jinja were thrilled as models graced the runway to showcase diverse fashions, marking the culmination of the three-day PSFU Women’s Day Katale.

Day three highlighted a fashion show and contest themed “Creating Work Opportunities for Young People in the Creative Sector,” held in the Kreative village as part of the broader Women’s Day Katale event.

Attendees eagerly gathered to witness collections from renowned Ugandan designers like Joshua Kiyimba of Jonjo Fashion Designers, Arija Fashions, and self-taught fashion designer Rashidah, known as Miss She, among others.

Five models strutted the catwalk, displaying a variety of fashion pieces crafted from local textiles. The show was orchestrated by Rebecca Nalunga, a fashion writer, show producer, and magazine stylist.

Damali Ssali, PSFU’s Chief Programs and Projects Officer, urged Ugandans to take the art, culture, and creative industry seriously, emphasizing its potential to generate billions in revenue for the country.

Ssali praised the fashion brands that participated in Jinja for their dedication to showcasing Uganda’s offerings and encouraged the consumption of locally made products to bolster the economy and create jobs.

A panel discussion on Fashion and Art included esteemed figures such as Abbas Kaijuka, Anita Peril, Brenda Maraka, Joshua Kiyimba, and Cissy Kyeyune, along with Sarah Kagingo, Uncle-Mo, and Owek. Yudaya Babirye, the Busoga Kingdom Kyabazinga Affairs Minister, among others.

Organized by the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) and supported by the Young Africa Works (YAW) Lead Firm Structure program in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the 2024 PSFU Women’s Day Katale concluded on Sunday with over 200 exhibitors, predominantly women and youth.

The event was closed by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East Africa Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
